I have had numerous residents contact me about the road closure on Church Street in Coltishall, I can now confirm that there is another permit on the Street Works Register for some gas works again outside The Old House, Church Street which started today. The traffic management for this is registered under some carriageway incursion, meaning it would not cause much of an issue to traffic flows. The gas contractor worked within Anglian Waters closure but failed to reinstate their excavation in the carriageway. It has now made it impossible for Anglian Waters traffic management company to remove the road closure on safety grounds. The gas contractor last communication to Anglian Water was that they will reinstate on Saturday morning as they could not get the material until then. The Streetworks office were not informed of this during working hours. The Street Works inspector has instructed the traffic management company dealing with the closure to notify him as soon as they get the go ahead to open the road. I will post as soon as I hear any update

Countdown to the Big Beam Lift! Construction of the A1270 Norwich Northern Distributor Road will reach another milestone on Sunday, 9 April, when the massive steel beams that will span the Norwich to Sheringham railway are lifted into place. The weather forecast is good for the weekend – the critical factor being wind strength – and the 1,000 tonne crane needed to lift each pair of 36.7-metre beams (80 tonnes a pair) will be arriving with ten support waggons early on Friday. Both Plumstead Road and the Norwich to Sheringham railway will be closed, with Sunday Bittern Line trains replaced by buses. Plumstead Road will close at 8pm on Saturday evening (8 April) to create a safety zone around the crane. Lifting is expected to start in the early hours of Sunday morning and is scheduled for completion by 10pm on Sunday. However, once underway the lifts are expected to proceed quickly and (barring unforeseen hitches) all five braced pairs could be in place by noon on Sunday. Plumstead Road will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so, and at the latest in time for the Monday morning return to work. Bittern Line trains will operate as normal on Monday, but will again be replaced by buses on Easter Sunday (16th) which is the reserve beam lift day. If all goes to plan, the railway bridge will be the sixth bridge out of eight on the 20km route of the A1270 Norwich Northern Distributor Road to have its main beams in place. Reinforced concrete beams are already on at Marriott’s Way, the A140 Cromer Road, Buxton Road and Plumstead Road, and are going on today (Tues) at Bell Farm Track (near Reepham Road).
